Nonparametric Statistics for Health Care Research: Statistics for Small Samples and Unusual Distributions Overview

This book will help the reader select and interpret the most appropriate statistical tests to enable the effective assessment of a particular intervention. Beginning with a general overview of nonparametric statistics, Majorie A Pett reviews statistical hypothesis testing and the characteristics of data. She then explores "goodness of fit" tests, tests for two related samples, repeated measures for multiple time periods or matched conditions, tests for two independent samples, tests to assess differences among independent groups and tests for association between variables.

NASA | DNA Building Blocks Can Be Made in Space

NASA | DNA Building Blocks Can Be Made in Space Tube. Duration : 2.83 Mins.

NASA-funded researchers have evidence that some building blocks of DNA, the molecule that carries the genetic instructions for life, found in meteorites were likely created in space. The research gives support to the theory that a "kit" of ready-made parts created in space and delivered to Earth by meteorite and comet impacts assisted the origin of life. Distribution and Administration of Potassium Iodide in the Event of a Nuclear Incident

Distribution and Administration of Potassium Iodide in the Event of a Nuclear Incident

Rate This Product :

Distribution and Administration of Potassium Iodide in the Event of a Nuclear Incident Overview

Radioactive iodines are produced during the operation of nuclear power plants and during the detonation of nuclear weapons. In the event of a radiation incident, radioiodine is one of the contaminants that could be released into the environment. Exposure to radioiodine can lead to radiation injury to the thyroid, including thyroid cancer. Radiation to the thyroid from radioiodine can be limited by taking a nonradioactive iodine (stable iodine) such as potassium iodide. This book assesses strategies for the distribution and administration of potassium iodide (KI) in the event of a nuclear incident. The report says that potassium iodide pills should be available to everyone age 40 or younger - especially children and pregnant and lactating women - living near a nuclear power plant. States and municipalities should decide how to stockpile, distribute, and administer potassium iodide tablets, and federal agencies should keep a backup supply of tablets and be prepared to distribute them to affected areas.

Drinking Water Distribution Systems: Assessing and Reducing Risks

Drinking Water Distribution Systems: Assessing and Reducing Risks

Rate This Product :

Drinking Water Distribution Systems: Assessing and Reducing Risks Overview

Protecting and maintaining water distributions systems is crucial to ensuring high quality drinking water. Distribution systems - consisting of pipes, pumps, valves, storage tanks, reservoirs, meters, fittings, and other hydraulic appurtenances - carry drinking water from a centralized treatment plant or well supplies to consumers and taps. Spanning almost 1 million miles in the United States, distribution systems represent the vast majority of physical infrastructure for water supplies, and thus constitute the primary management challenge from both an operational and public health standpoint. Recent data on waterborne disease outbreaks suggest that distribution systems remain a source of contamination that has yet to be fully addressed. This report evaluates approaches for risk characterization and recent data, and it identifies a variety of strategies that could be considered to reduce the risks posed by water-quality deteriorating events in distribution systems. Particular attention is given to backflow events via cross connections, the potential for contamination of the distribution system during construction and repair activities, maintenance of storage facilities, and the role of premise plumbing in public health risk. The report also identifies advances in detection, monitoring and modeling, analytical methods, and research and development opportunities that will enable the water supply industry to further reduce risks associated with drinking water distribution systems.

Possible severe weather may develop --- and move towards the epicenters of the frequency spikes -- what I call "HAARP rings" . This means we should watch Jackson/Brandon Mississippi, Greenwood Springs Mississippi for possible damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes (within 2 days approx). Other areas to watch --- though not seen on intellicast --- would be Kansas City Missouri .. and Eastern/Central Tennessee .... Tennessee is just a "ring" of rings... background clutter --- so it may not produce the severe I am expecting in Mississippi.. but worthy to watch for the next couple days. links for you to use to monitor the possible coming outbreak of severe weather: sincedutch.wordpress.com ------------------------------------ Funding the operation: The help of the individual viewer is needed !! :^) I offer a simple Donation Option for those who enjoy my findings and are able to help ! Philippine Agricultural and Food Policies: Implications for Poverty and Income Distribution ( Research Report 161 - IFPRI) Overview

Despite progress in recent years, poverty incidence remains very high in the Philippines, and poor households are highly vulnerable to the recent dramatic increases in food prices. In response to this problem, this research report investigates how Philippine policymakers can lower prices and reduce poverty. Using a dynamic-recursive computable general equilibrium model calibrated to a social accounting matrix of the Philippine economy, as well as other tools, the report simulates the effects of trade reform and increased rice productivity. The results indicate that diminished protection for major food items and investments in greater inbred-rice productivity have the potential to reduce prices and poverty in the Philippines. This report will be a valuable resource for policymakers, development specialists, and others trying to cope with the challenges of rising food prices.

An Introduction to Heavy-Tailed and Subexponential Distributions (Springer Series in Operations Research and Financial Engineering) Overview

This monograph provides a complete and comprehensive introduction to the theory of long-tailed and subexponential distributions in one dimension. New results are presented in a simple, coherent and systematic way. All the standard properties of such convolutions are then obtained as easy consequences of these results. The book focuses on more theoretical aspects. A discussion of where the areas of applications currently stand in included as is some preliminary mathematical material. Mathematical modelers (for e.g. in finance and environmental science) and statisticians will find this book useful.
